Dental Crowns

Tooth trauma or decay can cause pain and inhibit your oral function. A dental crown is placed atop a damaged tooth to improve your oral health and enhance your speaking and eating abilities. Davis Dentistry in Scottsdale, AZ, is renowned for restorations like crowns. We can also coordinate with local surgeons for implant support.

Dental Crowns Are Incredibly Common

/

The American College of Prosthodontists reports that a single crown is the most performed restorative dental procedure with 2.3 million implant-supported crowns created each year. Our dentist, Dr. Davis, provides traditional and implant-supported crowns and is here to help you make the right choice.

Dental Crowns Can Improve Aesthetics

Crowns are traditionally used for restorative purposes, however, they do offer major cosmetic benefits. For one, they can drastically reshape a tooth. Dental crowns can also address tooth discoloration that teeth whitening treatments can't handle.

Wonderful office and conveniently located in the AJ/s shopping center at Scottsdale and Lone Mountain with plenty of parking. Upon entry you are met with a smile by the courteous staff. I have never waited more than 5 minutes for an appointment. I needed a crown replaced today. The procedure was explained thoroughly with pricing outlined up front. Pricing for cleaning as well as other procedures is fair and reasonable. The whole procedure was fairly quick and painless. I would definitely recommend this office for anyone looking for a dentist in North Scottsdale area.

Implants Provide the Best Support

implant-supported crown

Crowns supported by dental implants have maximum stability and support. Dental implants also have the added benefit of stopping jawbone recession that occurs due to tooth loss. If you want to reap all the benefits of a dental implant and completely replace a missing tooth, we can coordinate your care with local oral surgeons. They can place your implants and Dr. Davis can create your custom dental crown. If the cost of implants is prohibitive or you do not qualify for implants, we can explore other tooth restoration avenues like dental bridges anchored by porcelain crowns.

Crowns Are Covered by Dental Insurance

Dental insurance will provide coverage for crowns that are placed for medical reasons, but it will not cover implants placed to support crowns. However, many patients believe the cost of implant-supported crowns is worth it thanks to the far-reaching benefits.

Our office is contracted with the insurance companies Cigna and Guardian. If you have a different dental insurance provider, we can submit your claim for direct reimbursement on your behalf.

The Dental Crown Timeline

Although having a crown made in our office is a two-appointment procedure, the majority of the work is completed during the first appointment and you should only need to be numbed once. After your consultation, you can expect several steps:
A powerful porcelain or zirconia crown is placed in just two appointments.
A powerful porcelain or zirconia crown is placed in just two appointments.

Imaging

Our dentist, Dr. Davis, will perform a complete examination of your mouth and take X-rays to ensure he sees the extent of your tooth decay or damage.

Preparation

Our dentist will numb your mouth with a pain-eliminating anesthetic. Next, he will remove decayed and damaged tissue and old filling material. He will then reshape your tooth so it can properly support the crown.

Creation

Our dentist will take a digital impression of your tooth. Digital impressions are more comfortable than the alternative and provide more precise imaging. The impressions will be sent to a dental lab where technicians will create your custom crown.

Dr. Davis will place a temporary crown as you wait for your permanent crown. This temporary crown protects your exposed tooth and allows you to eat and speak as you wait 2.5 weeks for the lab to finalize your crown.

Placement

You can return to our office for your second appointment, which is relatively fast and pain-free. Dr. Davis removes the temporary crown, ensures the lab-created crown fits, and cements your new crown to your tooth.

How Long Do Dental Crowns Last?

Smiling mature man

You can expect your porcelain crown to last 5-15 years. A crown, whether it's made of porcelain or zirconia, can last even longer than the expected lifespan with proper dental care.

Some materials, like zirconia, may last even longer than porcelain. Dr. Davis will walk you through your options and provide his expert opinion on whether a porcelain or zirconia restoration is best for your needs.

Our Dentist Also Specializes in Periodontal Therapy

/

If you require a dental crown or crowns, you may have suffered from gum disease. In addition to his restoration dentistry expertise, Dr. Davis can provide periodontal therapy to enhance your gum health.
